SCHOOL governors have called for a re-think on plans to build a swimming pool on their land.

Bromyard and District Community Swimming Pool Working Party had approached the school as one of two possible sites for a pool in the town. The other site, near Hardwick Close, is still under consideration.

However, governors at Queen Elizabeth High School ruled out a proposal by the working party to build on school land close to the A44.

Working party chairman Bill Gibbard said the governors did not agree with the business plan and feared it would encourage vandalism.

But the governors told the working part it could use an area close to the school tennis courts, near the Hereford Road.

"We're totally confused," said Mr Gibbard. "It's all nonsense because they know we can't build there because it would cost too much money."

"But we don't give up that easily. The board of governors may change."

Mr Gibbard said the working party was hopeful that the new Herefordshire Council would support the proposals.
