Ledbury made the trip to Shobdon on Saturday and in perfect cricket weather gained their maiden victory of a so far disrupted league season.

SHOBDON v LEDBURY

Skipper Steve Evans won the toss and duly decided to bat in the lovely conditions.

Ledbury made a steady start but Evans fell for a quick 11 and also Maurice Embrey for 13. Dan Herbert then paired up with the ever reliable Rob Yeoman and the score began to tick over nicely. Dan Herbert began to play some lovely shots but then fell for 24, followed by Yeoman for a well made 37.

This bought together Lee Clueit, making his Ledbury comeback, and Mark Herbert and they began to really push the score along, playing shots all round the ground. Clueit was finally out for a blistering 43 and when Herbert fell for 18, the Ledbury innings subsided to 206 all out.

Ledbury knew they would have to bowl well against a determined Shobdon side and had the perfect start when Neil Davies induced the edge of opener D White, which was duly snapped up by keeper Tony Griffin.

This brought the dangerous I Lawrence to the crease and after he had raced to 20 the newly introduced Dan Herbert cleaned up his stumps. Shobdon then began to score runs a little more freely but with the introduction of Mark Herbert and Clive Jones the runs began to slow down.

As Shobdon tried to hit out, Jones gained one wicket and Herbert senior two in a miserly spell of 12 overs 1-23. Skipper Evans then brought back Dan Herbert and the youngster rose to the occasion and destroyed the rest of the Shobdon batting with some fine accurate pace bowling.

The tail was swept away and Dan Herbert finished the day with the outstanding figures of 6-44.

Ledbury thus picked up the maximum 20 points and can now look forward to more of the same, hopefully due to the fine team spirit and mix of youth and experience.
