Newent Chamber of Trade is considering setting up a Farmers' Market.
The move comes after the town council refused to subsidise a Forest of Dean District Council initiative that was bringing a Farmer's Market to town every month.
Last month, the council declined to back the ailing market to the tune of £1,000 a year, and to instead push funds into producing two new promotional guides for the town.
The Chamber, which like the town council has been a financial supporter of the Farmers' Market, believes that the market could still be beneficial to tourism and could help increase the number of shoppers in town.
