PARISH COUNCIL -- Policing - PC Bradley attended the July meeting of the group parish council and answered questions from members concerning policing in the area and matters of local concern. He highlighted the problem of thefts from sheds and out-buildings and advised caution concerning callers selling products or services at the door, for example tarmac. Consistent breaking of the 30 mph speed limit in Longtown village was discussed and PC Bradley reported that speed guns would be used to check this problem. PC Bradley can be contacted on his mobile telephone, 07811-12299860.

HALL NOTICE BOARD -- There have been several instances recently where parish council notices have been covered or removed. Many of these are legal documents, which have to be displayed for a certain length of time. Members of the public are asked to take care in this respect. The notice board is principally for the display of parish council notices.

ACCESS MAPS -- The Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000 means that the public will have a new right to walk and remain on certain types of land for the purposes of outdoor recreation. The Countryside Agency has been given the task of identifying and producing maps of open country (mountain, moor, heath and down) and registered common land in England. Draft maps covering the Longtown Group of Parishes have been received by the parish council for consultation. These maps will be on display at a Public Meeting in Longtown Village Hall on Wednesday August 6, commencing at 3pm.

RUBBISH SKIP -- The rubbish skip for the parishes of Longtown, Llanveynoe, Craswall and Walterstone will be at Longtown Village Hall Car Park on Saturday, August 23, between 11am and 1pm.
