BAGS of peanuts were used as lure for 'residents' faced with eviction on the site of the multi-million pound industrial road project in Leominster.
A family of badgers was found to be living in a sett on the route of the new road which is to link the A49 Leominster bypass with the Southern Avenue industrial estate and the adjoining £20 million new Enterprise Park.
With contractors Mowlem all geared up to start earth-moving operations this week Herefordshire Council created a new badger sett in the vicinity.
"We laid trails of peanuts over a period," said council press officer John Burnett. "We eventually extended the trail right to the artificial sett and it did the trick.
"The badgers moved in much to everyone's relief. "
