THE Herefordshire branch of a British diving club delved deep into muddy waters to retrieve 50 pieces of rubbish representing the club's 50th anniversary, writes SOPHIE BIGNALL.

The Hereford British Sub Aqua Club entered the murky depths of the River Wye at Hunderton Bridge and found a vast collection of shopping trolleys, gas canisters, car parts and push bikes.

"Actually it was more like several hundred pieces of rubbish - you could be down there all weekend and not even touch it," said Graham Essenhigh, chairman of the organisation.

Skips were provided to take the rubbish away.

Ten members of the one hundred strong club, which is 28 years old and actively dives all over the country, were involved with the event.
