Once again Geoff Franks from Sennybridge demonstrated his prowess as a fisherman, when he won the annual Hereford Fly Fishing Club boat competition at Draycote Water near Rugby.
However, his success was due to a change of tactics in the last half an hour, when he switched from wet to dry flies.
A shipman's buzzer and claret hopper coaxed the fish to the surface and he successfully caught seven of his eight-fish limit using this method.
Most of the other 24 anglers used buzzers and invictas just below the surface throughout the day and were rewarded with reasonable success, catching 68 fish ibetween them.
The weather was fine with intermittent cloud and a light breeze which induced the fish to the top of the water.
The event was concluded with a prize-giving and a meal at the nearby Stoneythorpe Hotel.
Results: 1 Geoff Franks 16lbs 5ozs, 2 Harley Godsall 13-11, 3 Dave Robins 13-2.
Heaviest fish: 1 Geoff Franks 3-14.
