SCOUT GROUP -- The first Knucklas Scout Group recently held its annual meeting in Knucklas Community Centre. George Linaker reported on the group's activities over the year. He said that Cub Scouts continued to flourish though, since last September, there had been no Beaver Colony or Scout Troop in Knucklas, mainly because of the problem of getting leaders. The Cubs' activities included a town trail in Knighton, swimming, hiking, cooking, tent-pitching, a display of model railways, a visit to the Royal Mail sorting office, the annual Saint George's Day parade, and the 2002 All Wales Funday. Cubs were scheduled to recommence after the summer holidays on Friday, September 12. Mr Linaker also presented separate accounts for the group and the three sections of the movement, which the meeting accepted. Group chairman Kevin Kell welcomed assistant district commissioner John Smith to the meeting and thanked the leaders, helpers and supporters for their hard work throughout the year. Mr Smith added his own thanks to George and Jean Linaker for their continued dedication to the movement. After the business section of the meeting Mr Linaker gave a slide presentation on Portmeirion.
