Ross Town 0 Quarry Nomads 0
HIGH-flying Ross dropp-ed their first points of the season in a hard-fought match against new opponents in Division 1 West of the Cherry Red Records Hellenic League.
Nomads won the Division 1 East by seven points last term and are likely to finish near the top at the end of this season.
After a stormy opening period which resulted in a couple of yellow cards being shown, both teams settled and Nomads almost took the lead when an effort beat Ross' stand-in goalkeeper Kevin Horsfall and rattled the crossbar.
But Horsfall was well protected by his defence after the early alarm and Ross hit back with goal-scoring chances spurned by David Skipp and Adam Bridges.
The second half continued in a similar fashion, with Ross having the majority of the play and looking more dangerous. However, Nomads also looked threatening in patches.
Ross finished the match strongly and came close to breaking the stalemate on two occasions. Firstly, a fine shot from Skipp was tipped on to a post by Nomads goalkeeper Lee Joshua and soon afterwards Dewi Stewart fired over the top from close range.
