Kington Town 2 Market Drayton 1

DESPITE suspensions and injuries to eight first-team players, Kington kept up their West Midlands League Premier Division challenge with a win which took them up to a share of second place.

Kington opened strongly and dominated the early play with slick passing.

They duly took the lead in the 24th minute when the visitors could only partially clear a right-wing cross from Carl Morgan and the ball fell to Jack Gwilliam who showed great control to lob the Drayton goalkeeper for the opening goal.

Keeping up the pressure, they ripped open the visitors' defence to leave Mark Davis with a free run on goal, the striker making no mistake to extend the home lead.

Market Drayton caught Kington cold on the restart with a swift attack down the right flank, the cross being missed by the home defenders to let an unmarked striker slam the ball past goalkeeper Carl Rose.

Kington never recovered their first-half rhythm, but their solid back three of Danny Moon, Chris Aspey and Adrian Powell dealt comfortably with any further pressure.
