Wednesfield 4 Wellington 2

WELLINGTON surrendered their unbeaten West Midlands League Premier Division record with a below-par performance at bottom club Wednesfield.

The visitors made a lethargic start and were punished in the 19th minute when slack marking left a home striker unmarked in the box, his crisp finish giving Marc Priday no chance.

Chances went begging at both ends until Wellington got back on terms in the 30th minute when Peter Wallace headed home a left-wing cross from Eddie Wells at the far post.

Although Wellington dominated the rest of the half, they could not add to their goal tally.

Nine minutes after the restart they went behind for a second time when a surging run from midfield went unchallenged.

Wellington came back to level when Wells again provided a cross, this time for Mark Fish to head home.

With all to play for, both teams went looking for a winner. Unfortunately Wellington lost possession in midfield and Wednesfield broke away to grab a third goal.

Within a minute the game was effectively over as the home team again broke quickly to complete the scoring with a fourth goal.
