THE Co-op is backing the Open Door group for the elderly in Hay-on-Wye with a £3,000 donation from its Community Dividend fund.
Open Door runs a lunch club for its 50 elderly members and the hall in which it is held desperately needed a central heating system. Until now, the members had to brave the chilly winters with only a few outdated ceiling heaters to keep them warm. But now, thanks to the Co-op donation, a brand new heating system has been installed.
"It's incredible. The hall is so cosy with the heating .It's gone from cold and gloomy to warm and inviting," said Open Door's Jean Walford.
