A DAY of music making under the auspices of the Border Marches Early Music Forum takes place in Hereford on February 7.

Cambridge-based music group Cord, directed by Francis Steele, will present a concert entitled Passion and Desire, exploring how composers of the 16th and 17th centuries responded to the gloriously sensual poetry of the Song of Songs.

Astonishingly, some of the music - edited from original sources - has lain virtually unperformed for hundreds of years.

During the day, Francis Steele will work with singers of the Early Music Forum, encouraging probing interpretations of text as well as beautiful performances.

Workshop

The workshop, which is being held at the Great Hall of the Bishop's Palace, is open to all singers of the Early Music Forum who have some experience of reading music, and would enjoy the opportunity to sing fresh music under a superb professional tutor.

A short lunchtime recital will be held in Hereford Cathedral at 1pm, to hear Cord in preparation for the evening concert.

A 5.30pm supper has been laid on at All Saints Caf for those attending both the workshop and evening concert, which begins at 7pm.
