ENJOY an evening of supreme jazz next Friday and do your bit to raise money for the British Red Cross - Iranian Earthquake Appeal at the same time.

Sixteen musicians will present a lively evening of mainstream modern jazz, to appeal to as wide an audience as possible.

Pianist Dave Price, inspired to organise the event while footage of the devastation at Bam in Iraq was filling our television screens, recently performed in an Amnesty International concert in Cardiff.

"It got me thinking that it's nice to put something back, without just putting your hand in your pocket," he said.

"The support is certainly coming in, which has been great. We're hoping to sell 200 tickets."

Hereford's Left Bank Village has donated the use of its banqueting suite for the evening and all musicians have offered their talents free of charge.

Among the performers will be Erica Lyons on double bass, Jon Watson on piano, Ben Thomas on trumpet and Lee Goodall on saxophone.

Vocals will be provided by Ruth Bowen and Jon Watson.

Dave, who occasionally entertains at the Left Bank's Charles' Bar, will have to count the proceeds in double quick time. Next month he'll be playing piano - and lecturing about jazz - on a cruise ship as it sails from New Zealand to Australia's Great Barrier Reef.

Sponsorship for the evening has been provided by Bill Jackson, Bulmers, Golden Valley Accountancy, Mike Gell Jeweller, Nick Fisher Music, Sun Valley Foods Ltd and Pritchards, among others.

A raffle to be held on the night will include two Peter Manders' prints of jazz supremos Louis Armstrong and Fats Waller.

Tickets for the event are available on 01981 240273.
