Nearly 50 members attended the Bromsberrow Gardening and Social Club first meeting of 2004 at Bromsberrow Village Hall. The main speaker for the meeting was Paul Curtis who owns Ketford Nurseries, near Dymock. Paul talked for an hour on bedding and houseplants and discussed with members the techniques for ensuring strong and healthy plants. Paul gave all members a primrose plant to take home with them. He also invited all members to an open evening especially for them later on this year in May, so that he can show them his business and it will also be the opportunity for them to buy bedding plants. The competition for the January meeting was the best pie and was won by new member, Renee Willetts. Members enjoyed all pies entered during the interval served with tea and coffee. After the pie supper, David Myers did his monthly Gardeners' Question Time and brought in many examples of winter colour from the walled garden at Bromsberrow Place. In the chairman's talk, Sara-Jane Watkins thanked David and Kathy Myers for their hospitality for hosting a carol singing supper at their house over Christmas. Thanks were also given to Mr and Mrs John Wilesmith and Jan and Richard Long for welcoming and hosting carol singers within their homes. Dr Greenall was also thanked for the loan of his shooting wagon to transport carol singers around. Nearly ?50 was raised in the monthly raffle and members were thanked for all of their kind donations. The next meeting will be held on Thursday, January 12, at 7.30pm and will be gardeners' photographic quiz followed by a romantic supper in celebration of Valentines Day.
