Pershore 3 pts Ledbury 7

ALL the points came before the interval and Ledbury held out against relentless second-half pressure for a crucial victory in their battle against relegation from Midlands 3 West (South).

Pershore snatched an early lead with a 40-metre penalty from fly-half James Masters.

Ledbury responded but were unable to finish off moves orchestrated by scum-half Rob Collins.

It needed an experienced head to change the pattern and it came when Pete Elkington went over after good work by Darren Lynch and then converted his own try.

The rest of the half was a battle of defences, but most of the second half was played in the Ledbury 22 with hard tackling keeping Pershore at bay.

Pershore skipper Andy Watson was sin-binned with 20 minutes left and Pershore camped in the Ledbury half but the home team were still relentless in attack.

It needed superb defending, with James Handley outstanding, to hold out for their fifth league win of the campaign to pull clear of the bottom two.
