Ross-ON-WYE provided the shock result of the day in the West Clubs' Women's League Severn Division 1 with a 2-0 win against county rivals and high-fliers Hereford.

Hereford had much of the play but Ross went in front with a superb solo effort from Kate Cameron who raced into the D and drew the goalkeeper before netting with a reverse-stick shot.

Ross then had to show their mettle in defence and kept Hereford at bay with some good work by Lorraine Stevens, Lizzie Watkins and Hannah Richards, backed up well by goalkeeper Chris Harris.

Daisy Jackson defended well for Hereford but the visitors were hit again when Cameron broke through and squared the ball for Harriet Smith to add a second.

Hereford earned a couple of short corners in the closing stages but unable to find a way through the determined Ross defence.

Leominster gained a crushing 10-1 win over Gloucester 3rd, who had beaten Hereford the previous week.

Skipper Caroline Hughes opened the scoring for Leominster with Cara Mifflin also netting before Karen Hackley completed a quick-fire first-half hat-trick.

Right-back Ishie Phillips struck home the sixth with an excellent first-time strike to put Leominster in complete control at the interval and Hughes pressed home the advantage at the start of the second half with two further goals.

Gloucester then pulled a goal back but this merely spurred Leominster into a strong finish and Laura Stubbs and Hughes took the home side into double figures.

Hereford 2nd continue to lead the way in Severn Division 2 after seeing off Blockley 2-0 at Evesham.

Jane Taylor and Lisa Ferneyhough combined in a well-worked move to create the first goal for Helen Lewis in the first half and plenty of Hereford pressure finally paid off in the second period when Taylor added the second 10 minutes from the end.

Bottom-club Badgers proved no match for Colwall who emerged with a comfortable 5-2 win from their encounter at Gloucester.

Coral Handley led the way with four goals after Gemma Richards had opened the scoring, but it was not all one-way traffic for Colwall. They had to regroup in the second period after Badgers had fought back to level from two goals down.

Kington beat visiting Knighton 6-0 to stay top of the Mid Wales Ladies League.

Bev Hyde opened the scoring in the first half before the floodgates opened after the interval with further strikes from Sherrie Gore (2), Alex Watson (2) and Sam Hadley.

Tenbury resumed after the mid-season break with a 7-5 win in a friendly match with Ludlow.

In a well-contested encounter, Tenbury's goals came from Abi Thomas (3), Emma Hillhouse (2) and Tina Bickley (2).
