THE new Bishop of Hereford will be welcomed to the Diocese of Hereford on Saturday, June 26.

The Rt Rev Anthony Priddis, the Bishop of Warwick, was named as the 104th bishop of Hereford by the Queen last month.

The service of Inauguration and Welcome at 11.30am will include guests from the diocese, a contingent from the diocese of Coventry, a number of neighbouring bishops and civic leaders from Herefordshire and Shropshire.

"We hope that this will be a wonderful gathering of people from all over the diocese, and an occasion when we can welcome family and friends of Bishop Anthony," said the Dean of Hereford, the Very Rev Michael Tavinor.

"Every parish in the diocese will receive invitations, as Bishop Anthony is very keen that the service should include as great a representation from across the diocese as possible."

The special service is being devised by the new Bishop in consultation with the Cathedral. Parts of the service are compulsory but it is hoped the overall effect will be a big celebration of welcome to the new man.

Bishop Anthony and his wife Kathy, a professional artist, are hoping to move into The Palace during May. Work is being carried out on the listed building, which also housed the diocesan office, in the meantime.
