Wellington 4 Newport 1

THIS West Midlands League Premier Division clash opened at a furious pace, producing two goals and a lot of action at either end as both teams attacked at every opportunity.

Newport opened the scoring in the fourth minute from the penalty spot when home defender Liam Craig was penalised for an over-vigorous challenge in the box.

Minutes later they were denied by Wellington goalkeeper Marcus Priday, who somehow got back to claw the ball away when a rebound seemed to be crossing the line.

Wellington levelled through Robbie Parsons, who collected a through ball from Andrew Morgan to outstrip the cover and slot home, and then took the lead when Parsons bagged a second goal.

This time he picked up a pass from Michael Prince to beat a couple of defenders and the goalkeeper down the left before turning and curling a shot inside the far post from a narrow angle.

Newport had a defender red-carded and Wellington dominated the second-half with Dale Withers stretching the home lead with a close-range goal and striker Pete Wallace grabbing a late solo goal after twice missing glorious opportunities.
