Winterbourne United 2 Ross Town 0
ROSS slipped to fifth place in the Cherry Red Records Hellenic League Division 1 West after suffering their second league defeat of the year.
This loss, against a well-organised Winterbourne side, leaves them 12 points adrift of leaders Purton but with four games in hand.
Ross, battling a strong wind and then torrential rain, faced early pressure but gradually clawed back to create good chances in one-on-one situations for Dylan Blenkinsopp and David Skipp only for both to shoot wide.
At the other end, however, on 38 minutes, Winterbourne's leading scorer Scott Cameron showed them how it should be done, beating goalkeeper Rich Newman from a similar opening.
Ross tried to hit back but home goalkeeper Tom Shepherd preserved his side's lead by finger-tipping over a fine header by Adam Williams from a Stuart Parker corner.
The South Herefordshire side created more chances after the interval without finding the finishing power necessary.
Then on 60 minutes, Cameron seized on a long ball out of defence and evaded three tackles before firing home his 14th goal of the season.
