THE Primary Care Trust's announcement (Hereford Times, January 15), that the proposed M E clinic will be two months late in opening, is a huge disappointment and a bitter blow.

ME sufferers have been waiting for help since the first promise was made in September, 2000 and appropriate care is long overdue.

However, the change of proposed venue (to the County Hospital) can only be good for patients and staff alike. Although Hereford ME Group was not involved in the discussions, having a clinic which is integrated into a 'mainstream' NHS location will undoubtedly be beneficial.

I look forward to giving the new clinic a warm welcome. Its opening will mark a turning point in the lives of many, very unwell people.

In the meantime, all ME sufferers should know that Hereford ME Group is continuing to work hard on their behalf. Attempts are being made to provide nursing care for everyone, especially the house-bound but, whatever happens, everything possible will be done to secure recognition and treatment for a terrible, though poorly understood illness.
