PUPILS at three Hereford schools are to be visited by a Christian organisation to talk about sex and sexual relations.

Challenge Team UK will be talking to 14 and 15-year-olds.

"The idea is to give young people an opportunity to discuss sex and sexuality in an open manner in an education setting," said Jonathan Rendall, schools officer for the Diocese of Hereford.

The Challenge Team is a group of young volunteers who educate teenagers about healthy sexuality. Originating in Canada 11 years ago, the team now tours the United States, Ireland and Great Britain.

The team consists of two men and two women at each venue.

"The Challenge Team presents its message from a commonsense and health perspective, without any religious references," said Jonathan.

"We hope the pupils involved will be given space to think about lifestyle choices. "

The team says it is not anti-sex but the message is one of chastity. The presentation deals with the reality of negative consequences but its main focus is on the positive aspects of practising chastity.

The team has visited the Bishop of Hereford's Bluecoat School and is to call in at Haywood High School and St Mary's High School, Lugwardine.

The visit is supported by The Diocese of Hereford and the Local Education Authority.
