A NEW bridge over the River Wye was opened to traffic on Sunday.

The £1.3 million bridge is a major link between the villages of Bridge Sollars and Madley.

The old Bridge Sollars bridge over the river had been restricted to light traffic only for many years for safety reasons.

It was closed in May last year for a new bridge to be constructed, work done in just 10 months.

A spokesman for Herefordshire Council said they were very pleased the target time had been met, and with the quality of the work.

The bridge is now being used by traffic and an official opening, due to be carried out by Leominster MP Bill Wiggin, will take place on March 31.
