WINCEY Willis, the former TV-am weather presenter, has spent the past 20 years working with conservation organisations around the world and is now putting that experience to use with BTCV - People Working with the Environment - as their outreach training officer.

During 2004, BTCV, the country's largest conservation training organisation, will be running three 12-week programmes on behalf of the Learning and Skills Council Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

The programmes, aimed at people from 45-59 who are not in work or education, are designed to provide them with new skills and brush up on existing ones.

"These 'back to work' courses are win-win all the way," says Wincey, who lives in Ross-on-Wye. "The environment benefits and so do the students."

Training will take place inside and out, with sessions ranging from first aid to finance and with practical modules likely to include dry-stone walling and tree planting. It could lead to an NVQ2 in Environmental Conservation.
