THE NEW Bridge linking Madley and Bridge Sollars is quite superb, and as the council indicated in the Hereford Times, appears well constructed and built within the time predicted.

Having used the bridge I would agree with the council's comments. However, it seems quite ludicrous to discover that a bridge, which is already open is to be 'opened' on March 31 by the Leominster MP, Bill Wiggin!

If Mr Wiggin's comments about the council tax, taxation in general and wastage (Hereford Times, March 11) are to have any real meaning, then he should abandon plans to open a bridge which is already open, and save his time and energy and devote them to more pressing matters.

By attending a function that is quite meaningless, he and council officials, not to mention dignitaries, will produce even more expenditure for taxpayers to fund.

This type of unnecessary expenditure is just what many taxpayers believe is meant when we hear our leaders speak of saving money by cutting out wastage, and would have no effect on services.

What we really need is leadership that actually means: "Do as I do, not as I say."

Unfortunately, for so many years our politicians have spoken well in opposition, but have failed so miserably when in power. It is hardly surprising that we now trust them so little.
