THE temperature was as sizzling as the action at Allensmore for the second meeting under BHRC rules.

Those punters who liked the look of Jason Podmore's glorious mare Quality Time would have needed a forklift to get their wallets home. She swept through the distinguished field for a majestic victory in the top-grade mile, clocking the fastest time of the day.

Later she sped off a 30-yard trail in the No Whip race to snatch another seemingly impossible success close home and keep Podmore on target in his quest for the area driver's title.

Barry Satterthwaite may be the 'new kid on the block', but he also has titles firmly in his sights. He partnered a spirited double with Robert Markell's charges, Red Nugget and Proud Alice.

Penhow trainer Roy Sheedy is riding the crest of the wave at the moment and sent out another winner when Wellfield Kate bombed clear with Debbie Wakefield to blitz the novice/improver event.

Hundred House handler Carl Davies has a handful of promising performers waiting in the wings, and the eye-catching Ken-tucky Chief fulfilled expectation when challenging late to lose his maiden status.

David Bevan powered from the melee with his father's Johnny Springbok to just deny Julian Price and Fold Flight in the open handicap mile race. Lee Price, also a native of the Builth Wells area, was another to keep the local flag flying in the winner's circle when Major Current exploded from the field in spectacular fashion to book his ticket into open company.

The 13-year-old Tom Sawyer proved that he's no back number, seizing the initiative early in the Pathfinders with Tilling-ton-based Rob Millichap. The hot favourite, Fearless JR, gave chase with Libby Lloyd, but the 60-yard handicap proved a length too much.

Tactics between the top four class runners played a major part in the feature race of the day, the Biotal Free For All, stalking the front-running Fearless JR, in the hands of Richard Owens.

On the back straight Nite'n'Gale (Julian Price) pounced, but suddenly all four runners were electrified and flying for home. They seemed inseparable at the wire, but it was the handsome head of Free Contender (Colin Bevan) who had just shaded Fearless JR, Nite'n'Gale and Rebelwood in a heart-stopping finish.

l Next meetings Sunday, Allensmore 2pm and Wednesday, 5 pm.
