NEW SCHOOL - A special school at Brecon is among those in Powys in line for help from a National Assembly school buildings improvement grant. Ysgol Penmaes's share of the lump sum is more than £3 million and head teacher Ian Elliott says that, when everything is complete, it will be a flagship school.

SUMMER SCHOOL - The Adelheid Project is running a two-week ecumenical summer school at Brecon in August, to be attended by 14 students from countries such as Bulgaria, Belarus, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Georgia and the Ukraine. The women will be taught English, project management and organisation, information technology and other subjects, as well as sharing in Bible study and worship. They will also visit community projects in South Wales.

SPORTS COUNCIL - Brecknockshire District Sports Council has been granted £2,475 by Powys County Council's board.
