Hereford Veterans battled hard in warm conditions to come away with a 3-2 win against England over-60s 'C' team at The Racecourse last Saturday.

Neither side was able to find an opening in the first period despite plenty of attacking play. But Hereford pressed strongly at the start of the second half, gaining their reward when the England goalkeeper dived to cut out a cross from Martin Jenkins and the ball fell to Tim Green who opened the scoring.

Hereford were caught on the break as England drew level but the home side quickly restored their advantage when Jenkins set up Peter Williams to slot the ball into the left-hand corner of the goal.

Hereford's Tim Miller, playing as a guest for the England side, netted with a deflected shot to level the scores again but with the hot conditions taking their toll a decisive goal was always likely.

In the end, this fell to Hereford when Nigel Mundy worked his way into the D after another Jenkins pass and cleverly flicked the ball into the net.
