THE crowd enjoyed glorious May sunshine at Hereford Races last Sunday and the locals had a measure of success when Tom Scudamore scored a double with victories on Major Belle and Princess Grec - a welcome winner for his grandfather Michael Scudamore, writes Graham Saveker.

Scudamore junior first teamed up with trainer Martin Pipe aboard his Major Belle in the extended three-mile selling hurdle race and, once the five-year-old had taken the lead at the third-last hurdle, they drew clear to record a five-length win.

At the subsequent auction the winner was sold to trainer Matt Gingell for 7,250.

County jockey Scud-amore completed his double aboard grandfather Michael's Princess Grec in the mares only handicap hurdle.

Princess Grec, making a reappearance over hurdles after falling last time out over fences, was a battling length and threequarters winner over runner-up Lady Ward.

Tom Scudamore said of the Bromsash-trained winner: " We've only had her about six weeks, but it's obviously nice to win with her at the first time of asking, as it shows we must be doing something right."

Somerset trainer John Ryall has long had a reputation for producing his horses to win at the Holmer track and Bronzesmith scored in the two-mile three-furlong novice chase and so ended a barren 508 days without a winner.

Ridden by Joe Tizzard, the eight-year-old challenged the favourite Cigarello between the final two fences and ran on well to win by four lengths.
