KINGSTONE High School pupils just failed to regain the Challenge Trophy when they took on their teachers in a game of golf run along the lines of the Ryder Cup.

The 10-a-side match ended all square with both teams gaining five points each, with the staff retaining the trophy as the holders but the pupils claiming a moral victory by virtue of the greater number of holes up in the matches.

Sue Whittal-Williams was the staff's most successful player, winning her match by five holes, but good performances from promising youngsters James Davies and Dan Morris, both winning by four holes, tilted the balance in favour of the pupils at one stage.

The school golf society runs most Friday evenings at Brampton Golf Club, near Madley, and anyone who has a connection with the school is welcome to play.

The sports co-ordinator is Murray Mackintosh on 01981 250224.
