A MAJOR element of Leominster's £5 million industrial access road project has gone ahead without a hitch with the construction of a new bridge over the railway.
The bridge, close to a new roundabout intersection of the A49 and A44 will provide a new gateway to Leominster and easier access for heavy goods vehicles to the town's expanding industrial zone.
For years lorries struggled on the narrow and skewed Worcester Road railway bridge.
Later this year the old bridge will be closed to traffic but will be kept in place to provide access for pedestrians and cyclists.
Meanwhile, as contractors Mowlem press ahead with the road revamp, continuing disruption of traffic on Leominster bypass is likely.
Motorists can take comfort from the fact that the work is well advanced and, so far, there have been few real problems.
