ART FOR AMNESTY - This year's Art for Amnesty exhibition at Knighton Library in West Street runs from Tuesday, June 22, to Saturday, July 10. The show will feature the work of Tony Collier.

TOWN COUNCIL - Knighton Town Council's plans to erect a picnic area and benches on the Bryn-y-castell playing fields now look set to go ahead as CADW and the Clwyd Powys Archaeological Trust have no objection to the plans. Councillors were still unhappy that the count for the local government elections on June 10 will be at Brecon. Councillor Rob Reeves said that the problem was that the election for the European Parliament was on the same day as the county council and community council elections. It was agreed to write to the Welsh Assembly to request that local government elections be held on a different day from other elections.

NAME AGREED - Powys County Council has agreed to Knighton Town Council's suggested name for a new housing development off Farringdon Lane. The estate will be called Noble Court after the late Frank Noble in recognition of the work Mr Noble did to promote interest in Offa's Dyke and to develop the Offa's Dyke Long Distance Footpath.

PLAY EQUIPMENT - Councillor Ken Harris, who sits both on Knighton Town Council and Powys County Council, said that the Government had made £200,000,000 available nationally for play equipment and projects for young children. He thought Knighton should make a bid for some of this funding.

TOWN CLOCK - Councillors heard from the clockwinder that the town clock was gaining. The Council agreed to bring the matter to Powys County Council's urgent attention.

TRAIDCRAFT - Knighton Town Council has given Traidcraft permission to hold a stall on Brookside Square on Saturday, June 12, and Saturday, June 26.

YOUTH DEVELOPMENT GROUP - Development Aimed at Youth has now been renamed Phoenix Youth Development Group. The group wished to undertake the cleaning and repainting of play equipment at the Offa's Dyke Park and at Bryn-y-castell.

TOWN CRIERS' FESTIVAL - Knighton Town Council has given £500 to the Town Criers' Festival on Saturday, August 21. This was money that the council had already set aside for the event.

JUMBLE SALE - There will be a jumble sale at Knighton Church Hall on Saturday, June 12, at 3 pm with proceeds going to the Church Hall.

GARDEN PARTY - There will be a garden party this Saturday, June 5, from 3 pm to 6 pm at Upper Dolley, Dolley Green, near Whitton, in aid of Saint David's Church, Whitton.

LEAGUE OF FRIENDS - The annual meeting of Knighton Hospital and Community League of Friends is to be held on June 7 at 7pm in the Seminar Room, Knighton Hospital.

FOCUS GROUP - At the May meeting of Knighton and District Health Focus Group the Chairman, Jim Price, gave a report of the inaugural meeting of the Powys Local Health Board Review Panel for East Radnorshire. Councillor Bob Reeves also gave a report of the meeting between local councillors and the doctors of Erw Vane Medical practice. The running total of the local WI petition in support of the Health Focus Group's objectives now exceeds 3.,500 signatures. The actual recipients of the petition will be determined after the next Review Panel meeting in June. The Health Focus Group urges anyone with points about the Ambulance Service or the out-of-hours-system to contact the group's administrator, Joyce Price, on 01547 529669.

JUNIOR DISCO - There will be a junior disco for those aged 8 and over in the lounge of Knighton Community Centre tomorrow (Friday) from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.
