USE IT OR LOSE IT - Powys County Council has serious designs on the public loos by Presteign's Children's Play Area and tennis courts, Wilson Terrace, and has installed monitoring devices to determine the number of people using the toilets. Other toilets in the Hereford Street car park are a long distance away. In addition, an increasing number of events now take place in Wente's Meadow, including the a lunch-time stop-over for the Radnor Valley Vintage Society's Tractor Road Run (for the Welsh Air Ambulance Service) on Sunday, June 6.

JUNE LOCAL ELECTIONS - At the May Town Council meeting Mayor Peggy Fraser-Scott announced that five of the present Town Councillors had decided not to stand for re-election next month. There are 10 candidates for the nine seats in Presteigne, and 2 candidates for four seats in Norton.

NATURAL HEALTH CENTRE - On the first Saturday in every month Presteigne Natural Health Centre, at The Old Surgery in St David's Street, holds a drop-in clinic, offering free advice on a range of treatments. The next clinic is on Saturday, June 5, from 10 am to midday.

Lingen ARTS AND CRAFT EXHIBITION - This year's Arts and Crafts Exhibition and Sale in Lingen Village Hall will take place from August 28 to 30, opening each day from 10am to 6 pm.

GARDEN OPEN - Again listed in the famous National Gardens Scheme's Yellow Book, Richard and Jane Barton's garden, at Ivy Cottage, Kinsham, is opening on Sunday and Monday, June 6 and 7, 2pm to 6pm and also at the end of June on Sunday and Monday, 27 and 28.

MID BORDER ARTS - Mid Border Arts are holding their annual meeting on Thursday, May 27, in the Assembly Rooms, at 7.30pm.

QUILTS GALORE - Presteigne Quilters are presenting a Festival of Quilts, Quilts Galore, in the Assembly Rooms on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, June 4, 5 and 6, from 11am to 5pm each day. Phone 01544 260356 or 01544 260650 for information.

PRESTEIGNE CHAMBER OF TRADE - The Chamber of Trade's annual dinner took place on May 10 at the Radnorshire Arms and was well attended by some 45 members and guests. This year the Chamber plans a summer barbecue on June 26 in Boultibrooke Woodlands.
