GROUP PARISH COUNCIL - Mr T Bennett was re-elected chairman and Mr R Skyrme re-elected vice-chairman for the year 2004/05, when Staunton-on-Wye Group Parish Council met. Planning permission has been granted for a two-storey extension at Mara and a two-storey extension at Doctors Pool Cottage, both in Staunton-on-Wye. The revised Draft of the Unitary Development Plan has been issued. There are no changes within the Staunton-on-Wye Group Parish Council area. A 30mph speed limit is to be introduced in Staunton-on-Wye village. The road hazard at the A438/Monnington Lane junction was discussed. A meeting is to be arranged between the Beat Officer/Highways Dept/Parish Council as soon as possible. An appointment has been made for another visit of the Parish Freighter Service on October 30. BT are consulting about their proposal to close down the payphone kiosks at Monnington-on-Wye and at the Letton end of the Bredwardine Lane. The parish council decided to oppose the closures on the grounds of the need to contact emergency services and that mobile phone reception is very poor in these areas.
