DETAILED forensic tests on a pair of scissors and clothing has led detectives to rule out foul play in the death of skydiver Stephen Hilder.

The 20-year-old's death is being treated as unexplained and a file has been submitted to HM Coroner.

The move follows a significant development in the forensic work that has been done since the investigation opened in July last year.

Fibres were recovered from a pair of scissors in the boot of Stephen's car at Hibaldstow Airfield in Lincolnshire, where he made the fatal jump.

Similar fibres were also discovered on the clothing worn by Stephen on the day of the tragedy.

Work carried out on the scissors found only one set of DNA - and that belonged to Stephen.

The forensic findings, along with the results of the criminal investigation, have led Police to believe no-one else was involved in Stephen's death.

Detectives launched a murder enquiry after it became apparent Stephen's parachute had been deliberately tampered with before the jump.

But, last week, Det Supt Colin Andrews, of Humberside Police, said he was satisfied they were not looking for anyone else in connection with Stephen's death.

"The enquiry is one of the most difficult the Humberside Police Force has ever dealt with and we were always determined to get the truth of what happened to Stephen. I believe we have got as close to the truth as possible," he said.
