Hereford United's competitive season will begin with a local derby after their HFA Herefordshire Senior Cup tie with West Midland League Premier Division Wellington was provisionally fixed for Saturday, August 7 at Edgar Street.

The match will be a quarter-final of the new-look competition which is reverting to a knockout format after being an invitation final for many years.

In addition to Hereford United and Wellington, Pegasus Juniors, Bromyard Town, Hinton, Westfields, Kington Town and Ledbury Town will all take part in the competition.

While providing a useful warm-up for both sides for the league campaigns which begin the following week, the game also counts as a competitive fixture and so can be used to account for Andy Tretton's one-match ban, incurred for his sending-off against Aldershot Town in the Conference play-off semi-finals.

The match forms part of a five-match pre-season programme with games against Swansea City on July 24 and Wrexham on July 31 adding to fixtures already announced with Bristol City on July 27 and West Bromwich Albion on August 4.

United, who have reported excellent season ticket sales with revenue generated approaching the £40,000 mark, are also keeping a keen eye on transfer speculation involving former midfielder Gavin Williams.

Williams, who is now with Yeovil Town, has reportedly been the subject of a bid by Hull City with Huddersfield Town also rumoured to be on the point of making an approach.

United stand to benefit from any transfer as they have a sell-on clause following Williams' £25,000 transfer to Yeovil two years ago and would net 25% of any profit.
