MY wife and I would like to lend our support to Mr Cohn.

During the birth of our daughter earlier this year, he was consulted to advise on a suspected problem. He said we should proceed naturally. He was correct and we are grateful.

It is unfair he should be held to account for an abortion procedure now routine and carried out increasingly more regularly by his NHS colleagues since 1967.

The legal and moral argument about late abortions is not going to go away. Surely no doctor would willingly perform such an operation. But it is not about individuals. It is, as a body, the Members of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists who should be "helping the police with their inquiries".

They have allowed abortion to be used as a form of birth control and shown a disregard for the legal rights (or any other rights, for that matter), of unborn children since 1967.

Also Dr Cohn is a victim of the imprecise law which permits, after 24 weeks, the termination of the life of an unborn child whom a pair of doctors judge to be imperfect. Imperfection is not defined. Those of us who passed this test should thank the Lord they did so.
