THE letter from Tony Luker of Basingstoke, about the disturbance of lorry traffic, (Hereford Times May 13) highlights the folly of the acceptance of the planning proposal for the Estech waste-processing plant for Madley and the 160 lorries which would visit the site six days of the week on narrow roads which will not endure the hammering.
The lorries would lead to massive delays in Hereford city too.
Is this all an attempt to create demand for a bypass?
This relatively quiet area would be ruined by this industrial development. Our so-called democracy, the very same which some would wish Iraq to be blessed with, is nothing but a steamroller. It no longer listens to the people.
However, as I understand it, the decision to accept, without adequate environmental inspection, is illegal so the battle is still to be won.
There is still hope for the tourists' tranquillity in Herefordshire.
ANDREW HEWITT,
Shenmore Court, Madley.
