Hereford'S female mountaineers are being challenged to break world records - in the relative comfort of the gym.
Among the records waiting to be smashed is that for climbing the equivalent of Everest on a machine that is rapidly attracting an enthusiastic following - the Versaclimber. The male record stands at just under two and a half hours for the 29,035 foot climb, but so far no women have made the ascent.
Anyone who thinks they've got what it takes to be a world record holder should contact Trevor Palmer on 0115 9508399 to register which model they will be going for broke on and who will be authenticating their record attempt. From there, it's uphill all the way.
Aspiring climbers will find Versaclimber machines at Hereford Leisure Pool, the Maesllwch Arms Hotel in Glasbury-on-Wye and the Ross Health and Fitness Club.
