STAFF at Hereford Motorcycle Centre are looking forward to a good night out thanks to an unexpected cash bequest.

For more than four decades, Elizabeth Richard-son was a loyal customer, having her C90 scooter and her motorised tricycle serviced at Hereford Motor-cycle Centre.

"It's not the first time we've been left a gift like this, but it is the largest and we'll all go out for a meal thanks to Mrs Richardson," said Peter Agate, the managing director.

Her funeral last summer provided a big clue about why she shunned the car in favour of two (and three) wheels, when the route taken by her horse-drawn hearse was revealed to have been designed to maximise disruption in the city.

"I don't think anyone likes getting stuck in traffic and my mum was no different," her son Ian said after the funeral. "She certainly had the last laugh."

Mrs Richardson was well-known in Hereford for her work with the local council.

She was still an enthusiastic motorcyclist when she died at the age of 80, frequently spotted either on her scooter or on the three-wheeler she invested in to allow her to take her two dogs along for the ride.

The planned night out courtesy of Mrs Richardson won't be the first time staff at Hereford Motorcycle Centre have benefited from her generosity.

"Whenever we serviced her bikes," said Peter, "she would bring us all a bag of doughnuts. She was old school like that. Nobody does that kind of thing nowadays."
