PLANS are under way for much needed renovations at two halls in a Herefordshire village.

The community centre and village hall in Leintwardine are both in line for refurbishment if funds can be found.

Although the ground plan of both halls will remain largely the same, the interiors will be considerably changed. The community hall's kitchen will be moved to make it easier to serve food at functions in the hall and the library will also be moved under the new plans.

There will also be new toilets and central heating.

The plans have been on display for villagers to look at and their opinions will form part of the next stage of planning, before they are submitted by Herefordshire Council architects for outline planning permission.

"The problem now is raising funds," said Bridget Sudworth chairman of Leintwardine Village Hall and Community Centre Committee.

"We are currently getting estimates from builders but it is thought the work will cost around £300,000."

"We will have to get some grants to cover the cost, but in the mean time we will be trying to raise as much money as possible ourselves."

The first event to raise funds will be a garden opera in the grounds of Kinton Farm. The Garden Opera Company will performing Rossini's Cinderella on July 20.
