MUSICIANS from a Herefordshire School have come to the rescue of the Red Cross by writing the score for a video promoting the work of the charity in the county.

The Red Cross 'Home from Hospital Scheme' decided to make a video about its work helping patients recently discharged from hospital but discovered they did not have enough money to fund the project.

Their first stroke of luck came when film maker John Platts agreed to make the video voluntarily. However, the problems did not stop there.

Hopes of being able to use a well-known piece of music to soundtrack the film were dashed when the Performing Rights revealed that the royalty cost would be too high.

It was then that the Red Cross asked Richard Taylor the director of music at Aylestone School in Hereford for help and he then set about writing a score based upon Herefordshire folk dance music.

When that was finished youngsters then went into the studio to record the track which has now been added to the video.

"We are absolutely delighted with the music. It suits the style of the film perfectly," said Liz Rabbetts, service manager for the Red Cross.
