WORK has started on an £11 million housing development at Ross-on-Wye.

The two-and-a-half year scheme by Lovell will create 66 new homes, including 24 houses which will be available for shared ownership and affordable rent by local people through the Elgar Housing Association, a member of Festival Housing Group.

Called The Vineyard, the new development -- at Vine Tree Farm, off Walford Road - will consist of two-, three-, four- and five-bedroom houses. In addition, Lovell will build a play area, and create a large area of public open space on the edge of the development.

Lovell has also been working with Herefordshire Council to turn an old railway cutting on the edge of the land into a wildlife site where bat and bird boxes will be installed.

Richard Grounds, commercial director for Festival Housing Group, said: "The development represents a major opportunity to deliver affordable homes and ,having worked closely with Lovell and the local authority to bring forward the proposals, it's great to see construction work starting."
