A NINETY-year-old woman who fell 12,000 feet during a charity skydive says she would do it all again.
Maggie White wanted to raise funds for both the Quaker meeting house she attends at Almeley Wootton, and older persons charity Independent Age.
“It was tremendous and I wouldn’t have missed it for the world,” said the Pembridge resident. She said instructor Mike Browne, who took the parachute jump with her, was marvellous and took any worry away.
“I felt absolutely safe with him. I remember seeing clouds around me when we first fell out and later the view was spectacular. The landing was no trouble at all. I’d do it again; perhaps not tomorrow but maybe next week.”
Maggie wore her mother’s 1927-helmet for the event, at an airfield in Brackley, Northamptonshire. Friends and family were there to watch. Beforehand, she said she wasn’t nervous as she had had aviation experience from the age of nine. While growing up in Lancashire, her father would take her in a small plane and allow her to fly it with him.
The £3,000 raised will help plans for an extension at the meeting house.
