PARISH COUNCIL MEETING – At the Bosbury and Coddington Parish Council meeting on January 8, various highway issues were discussed. The chairman, Gerald Blandford, met with Herefordshire Council and the landowner to discuss the problems of flooding at Staplow. The council and the landowner agreed to work together to put a pipe across the field to connect to the existing drains and carry out ditching work on both sides of the road.

Herefordshire Council Highways Department would be asked to unblock drains in the village and surrounding areas.

The state of the road along Brook Lane and by Notehouse would also be reported to the council again, to ask if they could effect repairs as some areas of this road were becoming dangerous.

It was felt that more road signs were needed in the parish, particularly in the Catley area, as motorists and lorries were continually getting lost and stopping to ask directions. A committee was set up to discuss the issue with Fiona Miles at Herefordshire Council.

PARISH PLAN OPEN MEETING – Lynda Wilcox from the Herefordshire Association of Local Councils (HALC) will be making a presentation at the meeting today (Thursday) at 7pm. The meeting has been well advertised and Herefordshire Council agreed to provide funding of £250 for the meeting to provide refreshments etc. There will be a follow-up meeting on February 5.

Other issues included the gauge which had been installed in the River Leadon near the village hall. The clerk had been contacted by the Environment Agency who advised that this would monitor levels and would trigger a flood warning when the river was likely to overflow. Once this service was made available to Bosbury anyone could sign up to be alerted by phone, text or e-mail. The floodline number is 0845 988 1188.

CHURCH – At Holy Trinity, Bosbury, on Sunday, Evensong is at 6.30pm.
