A HEREFORD supermarket had to shut temporarily when large parts of the city lost power on Tuesday afternoon.
Sainsbury’s was left without electricity for about 20 minutes on two occasions at around 12.15pm and 12.50pm, resulting in the checkouts shutting down.
“We did have to close temporarily due to a power cut, but the customers understood what was going on,” said deputy manager Neil Ferman.
“My colleagues were brilliant in dealing with the situation.”
Jonathan Smith, central networks press officer, said that around 600 properties were affected in the city centre until about 1.20pm, but there was no known fault.
Meanwhile, a road was closed for more than eight hours on Saturday after a main electrical cable was brought down.
Fire crews were called to the B4348 at Thruxton at around 6.20pm and the cable was repaired at around 2.45am.
