THE Conquest Theatre in Bromyard has put out an urgent appeal to ensure that the curtain can go up on this year’s panto, Robinson Crusoe.

It seems that the bad luck associated with Friday the 13th has struck the production, as cast member Liam Riley, who plays Billy Crusoe, Robinson’s brother, has to be in Cardiff on opening night – Friday, February 13 – unable to get back to Bromyard in time for his first cue.

Reluctant to cancel the first night, director Janet Hugman is now looking for an understudy for the Friday night. The theatre is appealing for any young man who feels he can step into Liam’s shoes to contact Janet on 01885 482391 or at the Conquest Theatre on 01885 488575.

Anyone volunteering for the role needs to be available for rehearsals beforehand (to be arranged).

l Meanwhile, on the final weekend of Ledbury Amateur Dramatic Society’s sell-out panto, Dick Whittington, the Market Theatre offers a rare opportunity to see behind the scenes.

On Saturday, people will be able to see how scenery is changed and how the technical trickery is achieved as the local group presents an open morning from 10am to noon.
