HEREFORD firefighters attended a caravan fire in Newton Farm this morning.

The caravan was in the driveway of a property in Kilvert Road and was well alight when fire crews arrived at the scene at 1.30am.

Three pumps attended the fire which had spread to another vehicle on the driveway and was affecting neighbouring properties.

Alec Mackie, press officer for Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said: “The caravan was gutted and is a right off.

“We suspect that it was arson.”

The porch of a neighbouring property also caught fire and another property was scorched by the heat, but no-one was injured in the incident.

A fire investigation was carried out and firefighters remained at the scene until 3.30am.

Police press officer Pete Butcher confirmed that the cause of fire was being treated as arson and said a man was spotted near the scene.

He said: “A neighbour saw a young male in his mid-teens running from the front of the property, he is described as a white male of stocky build, around five feet six inches tall.”
