You may submit your entry form and fee to people listed on the back of the form at any time from now on. By popular demand there is a creative writing section again this year and a lively children’s section in addition to the comprehensive range of other entry items. RIDE AND STRIDE – The Herefordshire Historic Churches Trust will be holding their annual fundraising event, Ride and Stride, on Saturday, September 13. Sponsor forms for both the Ride and Stride and Meet and Greet in the church are available from Dian Cope on 01544 388981.

EARDISLAND WI – The July meeting took the form of a visit to the garden at the Bannut at Bromyard where we enjoyed a delightful conducted tour by the owners, Maurice and Daphne Everett, on a balmy summer’s evening. The visit concluded with a ploughman’s for those who wanted it, and tea and cake for the rest. A very relaxing evening.

The next meeting in September will be a gardeners’ question time event.

BUNGEE TEDDIES – An exciting event for children will take place in the churchyard on Saturday, August 16, from 3pm to 5pm.

It will include bungee jumping for teddy bears from the church tower. £1 per jump (no children allowed in the tower). Bring your own picnic and bears and enjoy the fun. Further details on 01544 388637.

OPEN GARDEN – Doug and Mavis Tantrum will be opening their garden at Black Barns, Eardisland, on Monday, August 18, from 10am to 3pm.

Trains will be running, weather permitting. Proceeds will go to the Salvation Army and the Eardisland Church appeal.

EXHIBITION – The Eardisland painting group will be holding an exhibition at the Cider Museum in Hereford for two weeks from Saturday. For further details, contact Gill Richards on 01544 388323.

DUCK RACES – This popular Eardisland event will take place on the Mill Stream a week early this year on Sunday, August 24. The first race will be at 2.30pm with cash prizes and side stalls. Contact Gill Richards on 01544 388981 for further details.

BOWLS – Eardisland got back to winning ways last Thursday with a convincing 103-63 shot victory at home to Tenbury Wells. The visitors battled well in the early stages before the hosts settled the match in the second period. Best rink went to Robin Williams, skip, Carla Biddle, Cheryl Morgan and Stan Hall, while Phil Powell’s rink also had a convincing win. Jonathon Farndon’s rink saw the closest finish with the visitors picking up two shots on the final end to force a draw. Sadly the dream for Eardisland’s men of a place in the Hereford Times County Cup final is over for another year following Friday night’s defeat to a powerful Ross-on-Wye side on the neutral Ledbury green. However it was a battling performance by Eardisland, who made Ross battle for victory on two of the three rinks. The semi-final place achieved by the small north Herefordshire club is the best for many years and it was no disgrace to lose to a side who have lifted the trophy a record nine times. Ross will face Hereford in the final.
