AN INTREPID group of Herefordshire hospice workers has seen their hard work pay off after taking on an epic challenge.
The team of hard-working staff took on the huge 120 kilometre rafting, walking, and cycling challenge to mark Herefordshire's Bartestree-based St Michael's Hospice's 40th anniversary.
Titan 40 saw 17 colleagues spend a (very) long day rafting, walking and cycling their way from Hay-on-Wye to St Michael’s HQ in Bartestree, with the distance divided into 40 kilometre stretches for each mode of transport, on September 28.
They successfully battled through the challenge to make it to the finish line.
They were supported by MadSat Raft Team who have provided hours of training and were with them all the way.
The team, made up of therapy, nursing, medical and support staff who are all involved directly in patient care at St Michael's, hoped to raise £5,000 from the challenge, but have already smashed their target, raising so far a total of £5,620 on their GoFundMe page.
Therapy lead and Titan 40 member Siobhan MacQuillan said ahead of the challenge that “none of us are elite athletes and recognise how hard this challenge will be to complete".
"However each and everyone of us will draw inspiration from remembering the patients we have treated over the years, we want to raise as much money as possible for St Michael’s,” she said.
St Michael's Hospice, welcomed its first patients in 1984, and now cares for around 2,500 people in the county and its borders each year.
